Saanich Fair salamander

Okay, I lied. This is 100% not a salamander. Salamanders are amphibians with moist skin. This is most definitely a lizard. But “Saanich Fair lizard” just doesn’t have the ring to it that “Saanich Fair salamander” does. I’ve compromised the truth for alliteration, and will drag myself out back and take the boots to me at high noon.

This is Wally (that’s what I’ve named him, anyway; he may answer to something else), who I’m 99 44/100% sure is a European wall lizard. He (that’s my hypothesis, anyway; he may identify as something else) came and said hi to our group while during lunch at the Saanich Fair this past weekend.

Wifey caught him and dropped him into friend Alex’s hands (pictured) and, while he was kind enough to wait for me to switch to my macro lens to snap this shot, that’s all I got. The moment I captured his itty-bitty little lizard-shaped soul, he darted out of his prison and escaped back into nature.
